During the COVID-19 pandemic, I have held several virtual town halls with our local small businesses to provide valuable information of federal and state programs directly to them. I am listening to you directly in order to make sure the re-opening of our economy takes your needs into account. I will continue to work with all our businesses to make sure that your interests are heard.
There are opportunities for growth in Claymont, providing new jobs and economic security for our residents. We must make sure that we work together to create public-private solutions that build a better, more prosperous future.
We have an excellent opportunity to attract new jobs at the former location of the Evraz Claymont Steel property now called “First State Crossing.” This location is prime for business, and I will make sure that, as the new train station is constructed, the St. Louis-based Commercial Development Company works with the community to develop economic opportunities.
The coronavirus pandemic has shown how fragile parts of our economy can be. Many families live paycheck-to-paycheck and deserve more security. I am proud to support efforts for a livable wage for middle-class families. I will always support our labor unions who fight for better wages, conditions, and a strong community.
